The fourth phase of the national Covid-19 immunisation programme beginning on Wednesday (June 16) will target industry workers, says Khairy Jamaluddin.
The decision was made by the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee (JKJAV). The programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaludddin said it was meant to reduce the number of infections in workplaces as workplace outbreaks continue to dominate the number of new clusters every day.
At a joint press conference with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, Khairy said, “if we look at the daily Covid-19 data, yesterday, 11 out of 15 clusters are workplace outbreaks, involving almost 200 active cases.”
“We are working on having a vaccine delivery centre (PPV) which will be coordinated by the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti), with vaccination beginning on Wednesday (June 16).”
Khairy added that more PPVs will also be opened for other industries under construction, plantation, retail and hospitality. The phase involves critical economic sectors that are the backbone of the country’s economic development.
Moreover, 30,000 vaccination doses will be set aside for factory workers, which will start with the manufacturing sector first, PPVs for construction, plantation, retail and hospitality sector will receive theirs after.
