The Registries of Societies Malaysia (ROS) has approved the amendments proposed by MCA in December 2019 Annual General Assembly (AGM). During the 66th AGM meeting MCA proposed and resolved to amend several clauses in the Party Constitution. The proposed amendments were then submitted to the ROS and recently the approval has been given to most of the proposed amendments which will take effect immediately.
Among the main changes ROS has approved includes an ‘Affiliate Membership’, meaning Malaysian citizens of non-Chinese descent may join MCA as Affiliate Members. Another clause that has been approved is party election date in which party election is to commence no later than six months after the conclusion of a General Election, or after thirty-six months from the previous party election. Also, ROS has approved on ‘Quorum’ of meetings in which adjourned meeting must have at least seven members to form the quorum; otherwise, it will be deemed invalid.
In a press statement, MCA Secretary General Datuk Chong Sin Woon pointed out an important amendment which is that MCA is now open to Affiliate Membership application from Malaysian citizens of non-Chinese descent.
